“This canoe is Hawai’i’s canoe…It can be a vessel that can help our kids understand where we come from and what responsibilities we have to take care of that.”

ARCHIE KALEPA

After cruising upon the waves of the ʻAlenuihāhā Channel, Mānaiakalani reaches the shores of Maui. Dr. Scott Fisher explains the significance of Nuʻu Landing as the place where the first inhabitants set foot. Understanding a place empowers us to become better advocates for the land. It is this personal connection that Captain Archie Kalepa seeks to instill in the keiki of Hawaii. Already, Mānaiakalani is actualizing its purpose as a vessel of learning for both young and old. Next stop, Honolua, Maui.
