FEATURING: Kumu of Hālau ‘o Kapikohānaiāmālama
This video focuses on the kumu of Hālau ʻO Kapikohānaiāmālama. The summer is not only a learning opportunity for students but teachers as well. Deepening Kumu’s connection to ʻāina and culture takes students further down the path of discovering their identity.
Hālau ʻO Kapikohānaiāmālama serves the Hawaiian community across Maui by providing a safe and nurturing learning environment for students from early childhood to adolescence. The goal is to shape future leaders by fostering a deep love for their ʻāina through interdisciplinary courses rooted in traditional Hawaiian knowledge, stories, songs, chants, and language. The four-week summer program is open to students entering grades K-12, including those from Kamehameha Schools, State of Hawaiʻi DOE, public charter schools, and other private institutions.
