KŪIKAWĀ

Kūikawā is one of the newer Hawaiian music groups emerging on the Maui scene. In 2019 they came out with their first album Kū I Ka Wā. As a part of their CD release, they shared an introduction video. However, the intention wasn’t just to introduce them as musicians, but as modern Hawaiians with purpose.

Their name Kūikawā is to be unique. Kū I Ka Wā, their album title, is to stand out in your time. This introduction was meant to ask the question, ‘what do you stand for?’  They connected being unique & standing out in your time as the next generation of Hawaiians – not just as a music group.

We live in an age of realities & advancements unique to this particular time. As Hawaiians born & raised in this modern day, it’s important we find the balance of preserving tradition while moving forward into the future. Along with Kūikawā, we’re all included & connected by the same purpose.
